About the Artist

An Artform, 50+ years in the making.

Lynda Weischowsky is best known for her ability to combine several glass working techniques in a single piece. She is a self-taught artisan who started working in stained glass in 1972. Engrossed by methods, as well as results, Lynda embraced workshops, classes, experimentation and learning from mistakes as a great education in understanding glass as a material and how to think about using it creatively. After moving near Greenville, in Monroe County WV in 1980, she opened Glasswerks and immersed herself in the WV arts scene, doing production and commission work. Currently, Lynda works out of the same location exploring Fossil Vitra and Carbon Printing on glass

Lynda currently has installations at the following locations:

The French Goat, Downtown Lewisburg

The Wild Bean, Downtown Lewisburg

Sheena Pendley’s Photo Studio, Downtown Lewisburg

Tamarack/First rounds of artistic elements, Beckley

Inspired By Nature

Lynda recently began nature printing on glass, combining kiln work and glass work- allows the use of heat as a way to record thoughts and ideas using transparent, translucent and opaque materials. The technique uses layers of glass powders and/or vitreous paints directly on the plant. This coated material is placed under a piece of glass in the kiln. When fired, the plant burns away and what is left is the imprint of the image that is fused to the surface of the glass. By doing multiple firings on both sides of the glass, it results in a richness of imagery, depth and dimension.

“I became, and am still, intrigued by this process.” - Lynda Weischowsky
